Identify, Secure, and Restore Crucial Audio Recordings
Formidable Tools for Audio Forensic Labs
These are the plugins international forensics expert Phil Manchester uses to help crack the tough cases. His work with law enforcement covers national security, counter-terrorism, kidnapping, drug trafficking, and other serious criminal offenses that demand comprehensive forensic audio tools.
With noise reduction, EQ, artifact removal, compression, analysis, and the ability to focus on low-level signals, this advanced plugin collection helps reveal the hidden secrets of covert audio.
C1 Compressor
The classic C1 combines a musically pleasing dynamics sound with rich features and functionality: Compression, expansion, upward expansion, gating, dynamic filtering, sidechaining, and internal sidechain filtering—all in one plugin.
C1 isn’t about ‘color’—it’s about solving problems. The clean, neutral sound complements any sound, because its sole goal is to deliver every type of dynamics processing any project needs.
L1 Ultramaximizer
Waves’ first-ever limiter, L1 quickly became a favorite among audio engineers, whether to control peaks, change the dynamics and character of musical instruments, or make louder masters that explode out of the speakers.
Transparent and punchy, L1 offers true peak limiting that eliminates inter-sample clipping. It maximizes both the level of the digital signal and the resolution of the final file. It offers superb re-quantization for all bit depths. Its look-ahead peak limiter enables you to increase sound file resolution and production master levels with precise control and dithering options.
L1’s limiter section is capable of a very fast, overshoot-free response. Because a typical music signal contains many high-intensity, short-duration peaks, simple normalization of the file may result in a low average signal level. L1 can significantly increase the average signal level of an audio file without introducing audible side effects.
PAZ Analyzer
The more you know about your audio, the better—and PAZ shows what you need to know. Improve mixes and masters by seeing frequency response, stereo field loudness spread, phase anomalies, and adjacent peak and RMS level meters (with four different weighting curves).
PAZ Analyzer is amazingly accurate, and a breeze to use. Load the full analyzer to see all graphic representations simultaneously, or load separate components—even save results as a text file.
Q10 Equalizer
As it celebrates 30 years of service to the pro audio industry, the reason for the Q10’s longevity is simple: it solves problems. The recent 25th anniversary update retains the transparency, versatility, and efficiency of this industry standard, but raises the bar yet again with significant improvements.
With an added proportional-Q curve, double-precision math, and a modern interface that shows all bands or focuses on one, the Q10 is primed for 30 more years of equalization excellence.
W43 Noise Reduction Plugin
W43 emulates an industry-standard hardware system, based on analog noise reduction technology, that was known for its benign, artifact-free, and efficient operation. Four dynamic EQ engines increase attenuation in bands as they become quieter, leaving louder sounds unaffected.
Free from the warbly artifacts sometimes found in broadband noise reduction, the W43 is optimized for reducing continuous noise from fans, lighting, and other low-level ambient sounds.
X-Click
X-Click is the easy solution for strong, short, nasty clicks. It isolates, displays, and reduces clicks from analog sources (like switching noise and old vinyl records), but also minimizes clicks and pops caused by digital issues, such as clocking errors and sample rate mismatches.
Once set up properly, X-Click leaves virtually no audible artifacts—and the large, helpful display speeds up the click removal process by visually displaying the results of parameter adjustments.
X-Crackle
X-Crackle removes the subtle clicks and pops from damaged vinyl and other flawed recordings. After optimizing X-Crackle’s parameters, it automatically reduces surface noise—and thanks to sophisticated psycho-acoustic noise reduction algorithms, leaves the remaining audio untouched.
To simplify parameter adjustment and obtain the best results, the dual-window X-Crackle Scope shows the original waveform, along with a sonogram that displays the crackles being minimized.
X-Hum
Nothing interferes more with a great bass response than problems like hum and rumble. What’s more, at sub-audible frequencies, DC offset might be reducing your headroom. X-Hum addresses all these problems, quickly and efficiently, with zero latency and virtually no drain on your CPU.
X-Hum is the solution for issues that can compromise the low end of even the best systems—such as ground loops, bad connections, proximity to transformers, and rumble from mechanical devices.
X-Noise
There’s preamp hiss on a vocal, and room rumble is invading your ribbon mic. The guitar is picking up weird noises from your computer—and high-gain amp sims magnify the noise. No problem: X-Noise provides a “noiseprint”-based solution that can save you from having to re-record a track.
Isolate a section of the audio with the noise you want to remove, click Learn, and X-Noise subtracts the noise where it appears in the audio. Then, make a few tweaks to optimize the sound—done.
