Broadcast and Surround Suite
Industry-standard Tools for Broadcasting and Streaming in Surround
The Broadcast and Surround Suite includes high-end tools to ensure a smooth, engaging, highly professional mix for TV, radio, and streaming productions.
The suite includes all plugins from the Waves 360° Surround Collection, including 5.1 tools for compression, limiting, reverb, spatial enhancement, and subharmonic generation; all Waves DTS Neural Surround plugins for surround upmixing and downmixing; WNS and NS1 real-time noise suppressors; the WLM and Dorrough precision loudness meters; and more.
C360 Surround Compressor
Sometimes, limiting to prevent overs isn’t enough—you want the softer sections to be louder, and the louder sections to be softer. But you also want transparency. Conventional compressors may have an objectionable, “pumping” kind of effect—but not the 360 Surround Compressor.
The 360’s soft-knee compression doesn’t clamp down hard on signals, but slides them smoothly into compression. The result is a present, yet natural, 5.1 surround sound that still retains a dynamic feel.
Dorrough Stereo
Whether for recording, broadcast, or motion pictures, you need metering that tells the truth about audio levels. This isn’t just about detecting peak and overs to prevent distortion, but about the average levels that help define the emotional responses to which listeners and moviegoers react.
Now, Waves has modeled Dorrough’s patented Ballistic process—the result of a 20-year quest to perfect the science of audio measurement—and created the world’s most precise software meters.
Dorrough Surround
Surround multiplies the options for stunning sound—but also multiplies the opportunities for problems. It’s essential to make sure that peaks aren’t creating distortion, average levels have the correct relationship to peaks, and that all the surround channels are mixed as intended.
Working in close cooperation with Dorrough Electronics, Waves has modeled the physics of hardware meters with uncanny accuracy—so that you’ll see the truth behind the levels you hear.
DTS Neural Mono2Stereoa
Mono audio isn’t just from legacy sources like old recordings. For today’s live broadcasting and streaming, you’ll need to transform crowd sounds, announcements, coaches yelling from the sidelines, and interviews into stereo—especially for subsequent upmixing to 5.1 or 7.1 surround.
Developed under license from DTS, Mono2Stereo convincingly synthesizes stereo from mono source material, while giving tight control for positioning mono elements in a stereo mix.
DTS Neural Surround DownMix
The problem: 5.1 or 7.1 content that needs to be transmitted to, or played back over, 2-channel streams or equipment. The solution: DTS Neural Surround DownMix, which authentically replicates the placement of multichannel content in a spectrally balanced, standard stereo environment.
Developed under license from DTS, the plugin features DTS’s patented Active Correction Technology to fix common stereo processing issues such as comb filtering.
DTS Neural Surround UpMix
When the original source elements for standard upmixing aren’t available in a multichannel format, DTS Neural Surround UpMix provides comprehensive, creative controls for conversion to stereo. Adjust for soundfield width and depth, channel layout, output levels, and LFE filtering.
Developed under license from DTS, DTS Neural Surround UpMix is ideal for stereo television master control rooms, surround streaming, and replacing legacy hardware upmixing components.
Eddie Kramer Drum Channel
Eddie Kramer’s acclaimed production and engineering with Led Zeppelin, Hendrix, and the Rolling Stones tells all you need to know about his drum sound. For a huge Zep-like sound drenched in atmosphere, to a squashed Hendrix sound, to dirty like the Stones, Eddie’s drum expertise can now grace your projects.
Designed for multi-tracked drums, the Drum Channel captures Eddie Kramer’s drum mixing chains in detail. The plugin has optimized settings for toms, kick, snare, high-hat, overheads, and room mics—everything you need to make each part of the kit come alive.
Electric Grand 80 Piano
The CP series of electro-acoustic pianos were integral to the sound of late 70s/early 80s pop giants, from Phil Collins and Elton John to ABBA, U2, Toto, Hall & Oates and Billy Joel. Occupying the space between acoustic and tine-based pianos, the CP series made touring with a piano possible—without needing to haul a grand.
With a more focused sound than acoustic pianos, and a more complex sound than tine-based electric pianos, Electric Grand 80’s reverberant chords and shiny, polished leads slide into mixes with ease.
IDR360 Bit Re-Quantizer
24-bit audio doesn’t always end up as 24 bits. CDs use 16 bits, or material might be archived at a lower bit depth to accommodate a particular medium (like 20-bit digital audio tape), or to save space with non-critical media. However, reducing bit depth inherently leads to reduced quality.
To retain sound quality, IDR360° Bit Requantizer uses Waves’ Increased Digital Resolution (IDR) process for minimal loss of audio information when re-quantizing from higher to lower bit depths.
L360 Surround Limiter
Waves’ L-series maximizers have given engineers and producers the ability to dial in as much, or as little, musical and sonic impact as they want. The L360 Surround Limiter re-imagines Waves’ maximizing process to deliver impact to surround productions—with clarity and transparency.
The combination of multichannel brickwall limiting, dithering, and noise shaping—with flexible channel linking and grouping—can now enhance the video world with Waves’ audio expertise.
