Multi-Dynamic Processor
Multi-part processing is a very powerful way of gaining control over the entire frequency spectrum of a track, which allows you to process only a selected part of the audio. This is achieved by using filters that divide the frequency range into separate bands. In this way, processing affects only one selected range, while others remain unchanged (if desired). This part of the treatment is critical as the nature of the filters used for frequency separation is essential to achieve a transparent and natural separation of sound from the tracks where crossing points do not generate artifacts.
As its name suggests, Quad Comp is a multiframe
processor that incorporates up to four compressors with all Opto-type features, each operating in a separate, user-defined frequency range.
Each compressor has a complete set of controls that allow you to handle compression in the range where it is applied to achieve the desired result.
The flexibility of this processor is also enhanced by the selectable tilt of the filters that can be as wide as 6 dB / Oct or as steep as 24 dB / Oct, for maximum separation.
Even at the steeper slope the filters used in the Quad Comp always sound natural and musical, so that the processing applied in each strip does not suffer from phasing problems.
The ability to compress each track separately enables taming unwanted peaks in a selected part of the audio spectrum, only if and when a set boundary is exceeded. The ability to adjust the compression ratio and time constants independently for each track provides extreme flexibility and precision. The solo and mute buttons make it easy to test how the compressor is working in the selected range.
Being of the Opto type, the compressor in each range has a smooth, very transparent compression with no side effects, but more aggressive results can be achieved if the threshold and proportion are defined accordingly.
The use of this processor is very broad: combining gain reduction with frequency control can practically act as a ""dynamic equalizer"", since the gain reduction applied in each band depends on whether the level of this frequency has exceeded the defined limit.
Most of the time it stays on the master stereo bus of a mix, where there is a need to control or equalize possible problems with certain frequencies at selected points in the program; it is also very useful in many other individual tracks where the frequency content can vary dramatically over time and may need to be under control such as vocals or bass.
