Maggie

Atelier Series Maggie is a rich, soulful legato vocal release for emotional, cinematic and modern songwriting contexts.

Included are three vowel patches (ahh, ooo, mmm) with natural, progressive vibrato. We spent a lot of time finessing the legato transitions using a variety of post-production and programming techniques to allow Maggie’s performances to sail through smoothly.

In addition to the Emotional Legato patches, we’ve included Evermore; an evolving sustains keyswitch patch. We sourced the material from the vocal recordings and ran them through a bespoke array of hardware pedals for atmospheric, tonal sound design. Included are six presets: Promise, Afterglow, Hallowed, Abyss, Prayer and Stardust.

Maggie Downs is a singer/songwriter located in Kansas City, Missouri. She studied classical and jazz vocal performance at Troy University where she performed with multiple ensembles.

After her studies, she launched a career in songwriting. She made her debut with her EP that opened up a variety of opportunities in performing and co-writing with other artists. Downs showcases a wide variety of lyrical subjects while dousing them in upbeat guitar and piano-drenched landscapes. Maggie currently is writing new music as well as being a full-time mom.

Amy

Atelier Series Amy is a legato vocal release intended for emotional and cinematic contexts.

For this we wanted a tone that was somewhere between classical and pop. As luck would have it, our co-producer knew someone who not only fit the brief but also had the kind of vocal stamina this project required. Enter Amy Griffin; a talented vocalist and music educator.

Two extensively-recorded legato patches performed “long-style”. This means there are no programmed crossfades into a target sustain after playback of the legato interval. This involves far more recording time (12 hours in this case) than traditional legato sampling but ensures a seamless performance that also retains Amy’s natural progression in vibrato; musically-unique for every interval across the range.

Also included is Everlasting – a collection of beautiful, vowel-evolving sustains processed with a variety of hardware pedals. Every sample ebbs and flows; each note unique in how they evolve and loop. This keyswitch suite includes six presets: Beauty, Tundra, Celestial, Elysium, The Signal and Creation.

Fauxgorian

Atelier Series Fauxgorian is a lush legato male vocal release intended for cinematic and electronic contexts.

Performed by producer/composer Brad Jerkins, Fauxgorian’s initial aim was to create a vocal legato library that was a bit more unconventional. We recorded three different vowels (ahh, mmm, ooo) and processed the recordings to achieve a unique, wide, quasi-Gregorian flavor that can suit a variety of modern settings. We also provided two natural solo legato patches (ooo, mmm).

Also included is Pagan Ritual – a brooding, deep, organic instrument that works great for heavy, amoebic basslines. Perpetuum – keyswitch patch housing five presets of evolving vowel sustains processed with a bespoke array of hardware pedals. The Black Speech – a collection of processed whisper chants both solo and faux ensemble (try not to use these in a track at 3 AM).
