The Silver Kiss MK2 is a meticulously-designed op-amp overdrive with the right amount of filtering and clipping to keep it sounding primo at all settings, bookended by a studio-quality equalizer that sounds good at every possible setting.
The Silver Kiss MK2 is engineered to give you three effects in one: clean boost, medium-gain OD and a powerful three-band EQ. After finding one tucked away in storage, we decided to give new players a crack at trying out our original flagship overdrive. Voiced to be a glassy drive with superior breakup and natural-sounding note decay, the Silver Kiss’s front end features a tastefully-voiced op-amp drive engine with just the right amount of gentle clipping to make harmonics really pop. Dialing back the gain control removes all semblance of crunch for a whistle-clean boost with a robust EQ section backing it. Setting each EQ band to noon also removes them from the circuit for a transparent boost-OD combo. The active EQ is an extremely powerful one with much more boost available on all three bands and some supreme interactivity to conjure up some real wool or some thinned-out tones that can be supplemented with another pedal further down the line.
TREB : Adjusts the level of the treble shelving filter. This is an active control and so it has far more range than passive devices, but the action is tight enough such that it never sounds harsh or shrill. Setting this knob to noon removes it from the EQ.
VOL : Makes more loud.
MID : Adjusts the level of the midrange. This is a relatively low-Q (“low” in these terms means wide-band filter width), for a broad mids adjustment that is never overpowering in any position. Setting this knob to noon removes it from the EQ.
BASS : Adjusts the level of the bass shelving filter. As an active control, it has a much wider range without making things muddy or flubby. Setting this knob to noon removes it from the EQ.
GAIN : Adjusts the amount of pre-EQ gain on tap. Rolling this knob fully counterclockwise removes almost all of the gain from the circuit, allowing the Silver Kiss to be used as a clean boost.
Power Supply
The Silver Kiss accepts anything between 9V and 18V with a center-negative DC power supply. Plugging in anything other than this (center-positive, AC, higher voltage, etc.) there’s a good chance that you can silver-kiss your Silver Kiss goodbye. Save yourself some time and headache and plug the correct adapter into the pedal the first time, otherwise you run the risk of voiding your warranty, and there’s no romance in failure.
