Product Description for the Yamaha Arius YDP-163 (Dark Rosewood)
The Yamaha Arius YDP-163R digital piano is the replacement for the current model, YDP-162R. Yamaha Arius digital pianos are celebrating their 10th Anniversary this year, and they feature outstanding piano touch, tone and furniture styles.
Upgrades in the YDP163 from the YDP162 include Graded Hammer 3 (GH3) keyboard action with synthetic ivory key tops, 192 notes of polyphony (vs. 128), Stereophonic Optimizer, Digital Piano Controller App, and lower power consumption.
The Stereophonic Optimizer is unique to Yamaha and adjusts the spacing of the sound and the separation from the piano when using headphones. The resulting spacious, and surround sound quality will inspire you to play for hours on end. The sound of the piano seems to come from the body of the instrument rather than from the headphones, providing a more realistic and natural experience.
The Controller App for iOS devices lets you adjust settings, choose voices, record performances, and even access your favorite features quickly and easily. It has an attractive interface optimized for iOS touch screens and turns your tablet or phone into an easy to use controller. Once you try it, you won’t be able to live without it!
There are at least two very important features a digital piano must have for an experienced piano teacher to recommend it to their students: 1) true piano touch, and 2) authentic piano tone. The YDP163R meets these teacher recommendations easily.
Authentic Piano Tone
Yamaha’s Pure CF Sound Engine faithfully reproduces the tone of the Yamaha 9' CFIIIS concert grand piano, producing a very dynamic and expressive sound. This technology is the result of years of piano-making history and expertise in state-of-the-art sampling technology.
In addition, Damper Resonance DSP recorded in the sample provides a deep resonance when the pedal is used, resulting in a more realistic sound, similar to that of an acoustic piano. Similarly, using the half-damper pedal control feature creates more subtlety when playing, and allows for continuously increasing lengths of sustained notes, from slight to full, as the sustain pedal is depressed. Just like a grand piano.
True Piano Touch
The YDP163R is the first Arius model to use the Graded Hammer 3 (GH3) piano action. This action reproduces the touch of an acoustic piano, from the heavy feel in the lower register to a lighter touch in the upper octaves. It utilizes the same hammering system and springless mechanism of a grand piano.
Three-sensors are used (vs. 2) to accurately sense and interpret the behavior of the keyboard to provide a grand piano-style response and feel. This allows for quick note repetition and authentic expressive control.
An additional benefit of this action is the synthetic ivory key tops, which provide a tactile surface on the white keys, which absorbs moisture from the fingers and prevents them from slipping.
Other important features include: 2-track song recorder, dual mode for playing two voices together, Intelligent Acoustic Control (IAC) automatically ensures the richest tone at any volume level, and the USB TO HOST port for connecting to a computer or mobile device.
