PreSonus Central Station Plus
You mostly monitor on near-fields, but occasionally switch to big, honking Main speakers or a second set of near-fields. You want to hear what your mix sounds like with and without subwoofer bass. And you want to be able to monitor straight from digital sources as well as analog. Meet the Central Station PLUS.
It's one of our most popular products for professional studios because it provides the perfect combination of stereo inputs, outputs, and recording-communication functions, allowing you to easily manage multiple sources and monitor speakers.
With Central Station, you can easily switch between three sets of stereo, analog input sources with individual level controls. Two stereo S/PDIF digital sources connect via one coax and one Toslink optical port. You can audition these sources with up to three pairs of speakers, with individual trim pots for each speaker—recessed to avoid accidents. You also get a pair of line-level main outputs, a pair of line-level cue outputs to feed a headphone-distributions system (such as our HP60 or HP4), and two screaming-loud headphone amplifiers with individual level controls.
Finally, with the included Control Station Remote (CSR-1), you can remote-control the Central Station's main volume, input select, output select, talkback, mute, dim, and mono functions from your desktop. The CSR-1 wires to the Central Station via a DE15 connector, enabling you to keep the Central Station in your rack and control it from your work surface, providing maximum convenience with minimum wiring.
The Professional's Choice
The pros know that for critical listening, a monitor-control system must be as sonically transparent as possible. That's why we gave the Central Station an audiophile-quality, passive signal path, with no op-amps or ICs, and equipped the S/PDIF inputs with high-definition, 24-bit, 192 kHz D/A converters that deliver 115 dBu of dynamic range.
To enable you to watch your levels, the Central Station sports dual 30-segment, tri-colored, fast-acting, peak-hold LED meters, which can display dBu and dBfs. You can calibrate these meters to match your DAW or other audio device, and a handy switch lets you clear the peak-hold.
Speak to the musicians over the headphone and cue buses using the onboard talkback microphone or connect a mic to the XLR talkback input. The cue signal is automatically dimmed when you use the talkback mic, and a jack admits a footswitch for hands-free talkback operation. Finally, with the optional CSR-1, you can remote-control the Central Station's main volume, input select, output select, talkback, mute, dim, and mono functions
With pristine audio quality; the ability to switch between multiple analog and digital sources and three sets of speakers; fast, accurate metering; and all of the extras that make your studio work easier and more efficient, it's obvious why the Central Station is the professional engineer's choice for monitor control.
Avantone Active Mixcube Pair
The Avatone Active MixCubes are powered, shielded, full-range studio mini-reference monitors. Their design is inspired by the legacy of the 5C Sound Cubes used in virtually major studios for the last 25 years. The Avantone Active MixCubes are designed to be high resolution, full-range powered mini-reference monitors for fixed or remote locations. The secondary engineering facet was to create a timeless design that compliments a single full range transducer.
Studios primarily use 2-way & 3-way large monitors designed to represent a wide range reference viewpoint at higher listening levels. However, in the newly developing age of High Definition Audio, there is still a need to hear what your mix will sound like when played back over small "bass-challenged" systems such as televisions, clock radios, computers, car stereos, ipod docking stations, etc. It is important to make mixing judgments based partially on listening to reference monitors that will not impart tonal anomalies caused by crossovers or inferior full range drivers. Particular attention is always paid to the critical mid-range vocal/guitar/keyboard areas. This is where having a full-range monitor without a crossover is truly revealing.
More than twelve months of R&D, comparative listening & tweaking went into the voicing of the Avantone MixCubes. The result is a very smooth sounding, full range upgrade from those old familiar 5C Sound Cubes engineers were so fond of in the 1980's-1990's. Listening tests reveal that the Mix Cubes have a smoother midrange, more accurate, transparent top end response with extended bass while maintaining the basic characteristics of those original little cubes.
Constructed of non-layered, high rigidity MDF board due to its natural low-resonance characteristics. All cabinet edges are radiused. Elegent Polyurethane high gloss "Butter Cream" finish. 7mm thick neoprene pad embedded into the base of the cabinet serves as a skid-resistant acoustic isolator. For creative mounting solutions, we recessed an industry standard 5/8"-27 mic stand mount into the base.
The paper cone (chosen for its musical character) was custom designed utilizing the latest in FEA modeling and "old-school" speaker design artistry. The finest New Zealand pulp material is blended with mica fibers for rigidity and longevity. The cloth surround material is made in Japan and has unique damping characteristics, enabling a predictable compliance over the lifespan of the driver. The motor structure is made of certified 1008 low carbon steel by Sumitomo. The magnets are Y-40 GRADE (MIL-SPEC) yielding a 43 oz High-power/low-distortion motor structure. The proprietary 5.25" die-cast aluminum frame supports the driver/cone minimizing mechanical transfers. The outer mounting face of the aluminum frame is polished for an elegant appearance.
