Product Description for the BBE 482i Sonic Maximizer
The 482i Sonic Maximizer restores an audio signals natural brilliance and clarity by the use of two primary functions. First it adjusts a signal’s phase relationships between it’s low, mid and high frequencies while progressively adding longer delay times to lower frequencies, this creates a kind of “mirror curve created by the speaker neutralizing its phase distortion. Secondly the Sonic Maximizer augments higher and lower frequencies; loudspeakers tend to be less efficient in their extreme treble and bass ranges. The end result is a dynamic program-driven restoration without the ear fatigue that is normally experienced with the use of equalizers or exciters.

Some love it some hate it BUT

There is no better application for the Sonic Maximizer than using it at the end of your effects loop to smooth out the sound or signal loss in long chains. Face it, a signal going through 5 - 10 pedals is going to experience some sort of signal loss and the 482 does a great job of adding back the low and high frequency smoothness back into the chain before your preamp. Don\'t get confused by what others have to say, this unit has a definite use. Some HATE it because they use it with nothing else in their chain. Well, it doesn\'t work that way! Use it for the right application and you\'ll see. I have had one in my rack since 1999. Can\'t do without it. (Posted on 3/29/11)Rating
