Cornelius on the Tenori-on

Found this video of Japanese musician and multi-media artist Cornelius rocking out on a Tenori-on and Kaossilator live for the intro of his music and video Eyes. The Tenori-on bears some resemblence to the Monome (and Launchpad) I was talked about in a prior post, but is a bit simpler to use with built in programs on board that let you start jamming right away. The Yellow Album was created using only a Korg Kaossilator

We stumbled across this video that shows Gary Kibler playing the first track from his album, "The Yellow Album" which was created exclusively with a Korg Kaossilator. It is the first album of its kind and it shows off the impressive capabilities of this great little device. Kibler really plays this device's touchpad like an instrument. He manipulates the loops to give his tracks a very dynamic sound, rather then just repetitive loops. The album was recorded directly off the unit with only volume balancing done in post production. The Kaossilator is a lot of fun for the price and a really easy music making device. Honestly, my friends use it more than I do because even non-musicians can manage to produce something half decent off of it. However, for the price its obviously limited and isn\'t very versatile, but it seems like its built to last and and some of its sounds and effects are actually pretty cool. Being mainly a percussionist/drummer in a jam band, I\'ve managed to find situations where the Kaossilator fits in perfectly. All in all, its a very fun and cool device but musicians will find it very limited. (Posted on 4/8/11)
