Product Description for the Hughes & Kettner Switchblade 100 Head

The World’s first fully programmable Tube Amp with digital Multi-FX

For another first in guitar amp history, Hughes & Kettner has packed all the features guitarists have long been dreaming of into one amp: A genuine all-tube design and the boundless versatility of amp modeling. A bona fide tube amp. With tube-driven pre and power amps. And 4 channels that put the full arsenal of classic tones at your fingertips, from spine-tingling clean and crunch to singing lead and crushing ultra saturated sound. You don’t need external effects, because reverb, delay and the most popular modulation effects are already on board in top-drawer digital quality. Best of all, you can store all amp and effect settings in up to 128 presets and activate them live on stage at the touch of a button. And that means your sounds perfectly matched to your songs. No more panicky button-pushing between numbers. And today’s sweet-spot settings are saved many tomorrows to come. Switchblade.
No compromises in features.
No compromises in handling ease.
And certainly no compromises in all-tube tone.

A Lotta Bang For The Buck

It arrived this morning, and was unpacked, and up and running, in the studio, in ten minutes, yes! I have heard people complain, that it\'s too loud for home enviroment, but running it at 16 ohms, through a Marshall JCM 900 cab, I have real good control of the master volume, and reasonable low volume. Head sounds great, set up 4 banks of tones, in less than hour. Really pleasantly surprised by the range of tone available on each of the different channels, as well as the amount of gain. This will definintly replace my rack. The reverb, and delay are pretty good. the modulation fx are o.k. Not very tunable, but usable. Overall a pretty awesome sounding head. Thanks pro audio for the great deal, quick friendly service! (Posted on 4/7/11)

I purchased the Hughes and Kettner Switchblade 100 Head from Pro Audio Star and couldn\'t be happier! The customer service team was great and worked with me and I will buy from these guys almost exclusively.

I have been playing guitar for 30+ years, Genre is mainly classic Rock (Rush, Led Zep, Kansas Etc). I own a slew of guitars and amps (Marshall JCM 2000 DSL, Line 6 Spider Jam, Kustom, Dean Markley) but I was looking for a true tube amp like my JCM except with on board basic effects (Chourus/Flange/Delay/Reverb) because I was sick of giving up tone quality for effects.

That being said, when the amp head arrived packaged safely I plugged her into my Marshall 1969 Cabinet. I must admit at first I was a bit disappointed. The amp comes complete with a midi- board stage switching unit that stores up to 128 user presets. Well, being a bit impatient I jumped to conclusions without taking the time to actually get to know how to tweak the amp just right. It was not hard to figure out but, the first bank of presets were not for me.

The key is to turn off all effects, turn down all EQ and start from scratch. Then you will find the sweet spots for your guitar and there are plenty of those! The tone of this amp in my opinion is about as good as you can wish for! It is the perfect tone beast! From there you can add your effects and save the patches in the banks on the midi-board. These patches will pull up your settings immediately. The knobs on the amp of course will not turn to the proper settings you had stored but there is an LED indicator light that goes on when you turn a knob that lets you quickly determine where the original setting is so you can fine tweak on the fly! Brilliant!

I can let go of any other amp I own (though I won\'t) and not miss any feature all the others have to offer because this amp has it all!

Pros: Tone, Useful easy to use on board effects, Sounds great at low volume, completely shakes the house at just below mid volume, wouldn\'t even attempt to go louder then that! Did I say Tone?

Cons: The Midi-Pedal is hardwired. That may become a problem if after many gigs the wire gets damaged. No other Cons as of yet! (Posted on 4/5/11)
