Hating Ticketmaster is nothing new. Between outrageous “convenience” fees, funneling the tickets to brokers, and their recent monopolizing merger with Live Nation, concert goers have been developing a genuine distaste for Ticketmaster and its practices for decades. Now, the populace seems to be fighting back. Thanks primarily to a thread on Reddit asking “can we start a groundswell campaign to encourage Google to create a ticketing alternative to Ticketmaster?”, the search “G-Ticket: Google’s Alternative To Ticketmaster” has hit as high as #11 on Google’s Hot Searches list. On the one hand, we all hope Ticketmaster sees this and starts to behave in a manner better keeping with the general public’s distrust of the corporation, and on the other, maybe Google, a company that’s never seen a good idea it wasn’t ready to exploit, might actually take on the ticketing giant and offer a viable alternative to Ticketmaster’s entertainment cartel.
